By Micah Halpern
Monday December 16, 2019 I've Been Thinking: A new study from Israel's Census Bureau has posted a remarkable figure: 3.3 million people in Israel are immigrants. That is a remarkable number, given the total numbers of Israel's population. Israel's total population is just over 9 million and the Jewish population is just over 7 million. From the years 1990 to the present, 43.7% of Israel's immigrants made their way to Israel. In real numbers, that means that nearly half the Jewish population and 1/3 of the total population came to Israel from elsewhere. What a remarkable set of statistics. Israel always saw herself as a refuge for Jews in trouble. Over the years the Jewish State has also become a magnet - a place where Jews do not just run in times of crisis, but as a place they move to in order to replace their home elsewhere in the Diaspora. It is the Diaspora that is a temporary home - Israel is their permanent home. Read my latest book THUGS. It's easy. Just click.
