By Micah Halpern
Saturday December 4, 2021 Another assassination attempt against Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan was intercepted. A bomb was discovered under the car of one of the members of Erdogan’s security team. It was disarmed. The plan was obvious. To blow up the security car as it drove close to the president. The Turkish president was not in danger. Sappers disarmed the bomb way in advance of any real threat. But the incident is telling. While there are numerous external threats to the life of the Turkish president, those external threats pale in comparison to domestic threats. Turkey is a democracy, but Erdogan has utilized his position, his power and his police authority to stifle opposition - especially opposition voiced by secular student protesters. To put it mildly, there is a great deal of local discontent in Turkey. A great deal. Read my latest book THUGS. It's easy. Just click.
