By Micah Halpern
Silverstein, the beloved children’s author and artist, is being honored with a US postal stamp. Silverstein was born in Chicago in 1930, he died in 1999. “The Giving Tree” is Silverstein’s greatest work. It tells the story of the friendship between a boy and a tree. The commemorative stamp features a picture of the boy catching an apple. A marvelous lesson about the relationship between trees and people, “The Giving Tree” is read ubiquitously in Jewish education. Children read the book themselves or have the book read to them every year on Tu B’shvat. What a wonderful way to celebrate the New Year of Trees. Read my latest book THUGS. It's easy. Just click.
