The huge earthquake has rocked the Middle East. Thousands have died and many more are not yet found.

Israel has confirmed that it had received a Syrian request thru a third party for assistance with earthquake relief. Israel said that it was prepared to help.
This would be rare example of cooperation between the enemy neighbors. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a speech he had ordered Israeli aid for Turkey which was the epicenter of the earthquake.

Netanyahu said: "since a request was also received to do this for many victims of the earthquake in Syria, I instructed to do this as well". Asked who had made the request regarding helping Syria an Israeli official said: "The Syrians". Asked if this referred to opposition members or to President Bashar al-Assad's government, the official said only: "Syria.”
