Sierra Leone To OPen embassy in Jerusalem
By Micah Halpern

Saturday September 9, 2023
I've Been Thinking:

Sierra Leone's president, Julius Maada Wonie Bio, has promised that his country will open an embassy in Jerusalem. The news came, according to Israelís foreign ministry, in the form of a phone call with Foreign Minister Eli Cohen. This is another example of the countries accepting Israel and siding with Israel in the world of International diplomacy.

I've Been Thinking:

The Supreme Court in the Netherlands has ruled that both former Israeli Chief of Staff Benni Gantz and Air Force Commander Amir Eshel are immune to civil proceedings against them alleging war crimes during the 2014 Gaza war.

Russian Using Iranian Drones
By Micah Halpern

Wednesday September 6, 2023
I've Been Thinking:

Russia's military cooperation with Iran will not succumb to geopolitical pressure, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said. His comments came following reports that Washington has asked Teheran to stop selling drones to Moscow.

According to a report from RIA, a Russian State News Agency, Ryabkov said: "There are no changes, and cooperation with Iran will continue Ö We are independent states and do not succumb to the dictates of the United States and its satellites." And citing an Iranian official and another source the Financial Times has reported that the United States is pressing Iran to stop selling the armed drones, which Russia is using in the war in Ukraine.

Russia began using the Iranian-made Shahed drones to attack deep inside Ukraine last year. The so-called kamikaze unmanned drones do not need a runway to launch and they explode on impact.

Iran's Nukes
By Micah Halpern

Tuesday September 5, 2023
I've Been Thinking:

Iran is not only developing its nuclear capabilities, as we discussed in out Background briefing, but also their electronic warfare capabilities.

Iran launched exercises to test its "electronic warfare" capabilities against mock enemy drones, fighter jets and helicopters, state television reported. It said units from the military's navy, ground and air forces as well as air defences took part in the drills in the central, largely desert region of the Islamic Republic.

The exercises featured domestically manufactured radars, drones, manned and unmanned fighter jets, micro aerial vehicles and other military equipment, state TV said.

Oil Leak in Iran
By Micah Halpern

Monday September 4 , 2023
I've Been Thinking:

An oil leak has hit a transmission pipeline linking Iran's Kharg island to the country's mainland port of Genaveh.

Iranís semi-official Tasnim news agency reported the leak without specifying the magnitude of the spill. According to an official from Bushehr Province: "To prevent oil leakage on the seabed from the pipelines, diving teams have been dispatched."

The official also said that two vessels had been sent to Kharg and Genaveh's coasts to help with the clean-up. Kharg island, located 25 kilometers off the Gulf coast of Iran, hosts an oil terminal from which a large part of the country's oil exports are shipped.
