By Micah Halpern
Thursday August 13, 2020 I've Been Thinking: Iran’s influence in Lebanon has been severely damaged by the gargantuan blast that rocked Beirut. Iranians are monitoring the protests and rallies very carefully. And Iran continues to publicly declare their solidarity with Lebanon. Iran exerts tremendous influence in Lebanon through their proxy Hezbollah. Iran sponsors Hezbollah and dumps huge amounts of money and community support to prop up Hezbollah and give their proteges a significant advantage in Lebanon. Here is where Iran comes up short: right now, Iran does not have the money to help. The Iranian economy is in shambles and COVID has been devastating for them. Iran knows that the Lebanese people are angry. They monitor Lebanon’s social media and see protestors holding effigies of Hezbollah’s Sheik Nasrallah with a noose around his neck. Iran knows that if Hezbollah is weakened, their influence in Lebanon is lost. Read my latest book THUGS. It's easy. Just click.
